ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

MELISSA CZARNIK (Zar-nik) defies category with her genre blending approach to hip hop and spoken word. Her soulful and melodic flow captivates listeners with intricate lyricism and heartfelt storytelling. She performs with a live band made up of Eric Joseph Meyer (keys), Ryan Ramirez (drums), Sam Neufeld (trumpet), Ari Folman-Cohen (bass) and Ali Carter (backing vocals). Her latest album Rainbow Skies (HMP, 2017) is available on iTunes, Spotify and BandCamp.

BEN GRACE is an Australian singer songwriter based in Brooklyn NY. Persistent and prolific Ben has had more than 50 songs released and has written with many artists in a range of genres from power pop to country. Ben has a passion for local craft beer, good stories, messy community, and better questions. He plans to release a single every month on Spotify throughout 2018.

LISSA D.  grew up in Florida where she was raised in the church and has been singing all her life. She attended Florida A&M University for Theatre and Voice and began to learn the guitar on and off as a hobby from YouTube. After graduating in 2013 she moved to NY to pursue musical theatre and after many auditions, working full time, and not booking she became unmotivated. She picked up the guitar consistently and began songwriting in 2016. Today Lissa D has found her calling and continues to write and sing at different venues in NYC she wants to share her journey through music. She is currently working to release her EP “Journey” this summer.

Beat Music Series co-host, ERIC JOSEPH MEYER is a New York City based composer, producer and pianist who recently completed his Masters in Music Composition at NYU. Meyer’s compositions are authentic and unaffected with a lively, soulful and jazz infused depth of expression. Without apology, Meyer remains true to his musical core while combining elements of hip hop, improvisation and the downtown school of composition into his distinctive musical voice. Meyer is also the producer and composer behind poet/emcee, Melissa Czarnik.
